                GATHERING CANCELLED
               DUE TO LACK OF INTEREST

We have had no applications for the gathering and so we have made the decision to cancel it.

If you have made a hotel or travel booking you may wish to consider cancelling, although you may, of course, still visit Scotland.

We are considering hosting a tent or stall at the Scotland Homecoming 2014, to be held in Stirling.  We will post details here nearer the time.

Welcome to the web site of Clan Caig. The clan aims to follow on from the enormous work done on our family history by my cousin, Connie Cleps-Caig and the Caig Society. Connie has done sterling work on our family tree and the previous society over several decades and she has uncovered a huge amount of information on our family history.  The new clan aims to build on that information and also to continue research into our links with the clans Farquharson and McLeod of Harris. I wish to bring together all Caigs from around the world, into an informative organization, and to celebrate our links with Scotland’s history and culture.

Caig is a sept (connected family) of the Scottish clans Farquharson and McLeod of Harris. It is rumoured that Caigs fought with Farquharson of Monaltrie and Farquharson of Balmoral at the Battle of Culloden on 16th April 1746 ( I am currently trying to discover the origin of the rumours).  Originally from Ireland, we came across to Scotland into Argyll in the 9th or 11th century. My own family settled south into what is now Dumfries and Galloway, and principally in Dumfries, Kirkcudbright, Twynholm and Gatehouse-of Fleet. My Great Great Great Grandfather was born in 1796 and is buried in the old churchyard at Girthon, near Dumfries. My great grandfather, William Caig married at Minigaff in Kirkcudbrightshire on  4th April 1870.  Caigs were present also in Braemar and Methlick Aberdeenshire  in the 17th century. Gordon and Ian Caig have done research into the Caig family history - please their site linked above.

In 2000 I formed the Clan Farquharson with the permission of the Clan Chief and this is now an active clan society which holds an annual gathering in Ballater, Aberdeenshire in mid August each year.   Please see their web site at www.farquharson-clan.co.uk (link above).

I wish to contact all known Caigs and McCaigs from those we have already been in contact with, but also those we can track down through the internet and elsewhere.

I have drafted a Constitution which you can see by clicking on the box at the top of the page. Constructive suggestions for improvement and amendment are very welcome.

I therefore invite all Caigs and McCaigs, and their family members to contact me by email or telephone in order to register your interest.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Slainte.
